Who Do You Seek When Grieving?

By |April 27th, 2016|

How do you react when you are grieving? Where do you turn for help? We all experience grief – but we don’t all react to it the same way. Some withdraw. Some seek help from friends. Some seek help from books. Some drown their sorrows and pain in alcohol or by taking drugs. Some lash out or try to find relief or mask over their pain in their own wrong way. They just want the pain to stop or the situation to change. Yet, when we are hurting and grieving, God tells us to seek Him.

“And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons […]

Easter – He is Risen!

By |April 20th, 2014|

He is Risen! Most of you have heard these words – this phrase, right? We hear it on Easter. It’s the whole reason for Easter! (Believe it or not – not eggs or bunnies) In this day and time, however, there may be some people, maybe even you, who don’t know what the phrase means. If you do, you’ve probably even spoken them. Yet, are they just words to you? Or, do they really mean something to you?

“But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here, for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay. Then go quickly […]

Hearts Melting

By |March 22nd, 2014|

Have you ever done something that you thought God wanted you to do, only to have it turn into a disaster? Did you question where God was? Did it scare you? Did you seek him for answers?

“and the men of Ai killed about thirty six of their men and chased them before the gate as far as Shebarim and struck them at the descent. And the hearts of the people melted and became as water.” – Josh 7:5 (ESV)

The Israelites were in shock and despair. Now they were scared – the hearts of the people melted and became as water. What just happened? Where was God? They weren’t supposed to lose a battle! They had God, Almighty God, who […]

Hidden Meaning

By |January 22nd, 2014|

Have you ever struggled with understanding what God is trying to say to you in a specific circumstance or even when you are reading the Bible? It just isn’t making sense to you? Well, even the disciples didn’t always know what Jesus was saying to them – and they were living with him and saw his miracles in person!

“But they understood none of these things. This saying was hidden from them, and they did not grasp what was said.”—Luke 18:34

In the verses preceding Luke 18:34, Luke 18:31-33, Jesus couldn’t have been any clearer in describing to his disciples the events that were about to take place in his life and his upcoming death. Furthermore, looking in the book of Luke, we […]

Bigger Picture

By |December 21st, 2013|

Have you ever prayed to God for healing, yet healing didn’t come? Do you wonder why? Do you wonder if God hears you or cares? He does. God loving us – and our being God’s child – does NOT mean we will be shielded from difficulties or heartaches in life.

“Then Jesus told them plainly, ‘Lazarus has died, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.’”—John 11:14-15

From John 11:1-6, we learn that Jesus receives word from his friends, Mary and Martha, that their brother Lazarus is ill. Yet rather than going immediately to his friends or even healing him from afar (which is what we would […]

Voluntarily Yoked?

By |November 25th, 2013|

Are you continually tired and worn out? Do you need relief? Rest is available – but we must acknowledge that we need help and take the steps necessary at our own initiative to receive it.

[Jesus speaking] “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.”—Matt 11:28-29

Jesus is speaking to a crowd (and to us). He offers for all who labor and are heavy laden (or weary and burdened, NIV) to come to him. Jesus doesn’t say if you are or when you might become. It’s a condition […]

Expectations vs. Reality

By |November 8th, 2013|

Does your soul and heart ache for those you love when they are hurting? Are you a source of strength for them?…Is someone there for you? Did your expectations become your reality?

“Did not I weep for him whose day was hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy? But when I hoped for good, evil came, and when I waited for light, darkness came.”—Job 30:25-26

We find Job arguing with his friend Bildad for the third time. Can’t you just hear Job’s desperation and frustration? He compares his previous life–the one before he lost everything–to now. He speaks of times in the past where he wept and grieved with those who were struggling and hurting. Yet now that he […]
