Mountaintop to Wilderness

By |November 20th, 2013|

Have you ever had just an awesome experience or spiritual high at some point in your life – and then you seemingly woke up to a nightmare of a situation soon afterwards? Are you there now?

“Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.” – Matt 4:1

Okay – we know Jesus was perfect. But, he must have done something somewhat wrong or that God was a little upset about for this to occur, right? (I mean – he was lead into the wilderness AND allowed to be tempted by the devil?!) Well, actually–no, just the opposite. Jesus is led by the Spirit of God to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil after he was […]

Mirror Image

Seeking God. Do you know him? How well do you know him? Do you have a clear view of him, or is it clouded by your past experiences or limited by your finite thoughts?

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”—1 Cor 13:12

Circumstances and situations around us can be, and usually are, ever-changing and demanding our attention. Yet, first and foremost, I want my mind concentrating on: seeking God. He will provide answers or direction for everything else. With that in mind while reading today’s scripture passages, 1 Cor 13:12 jumped out at me.
Numerous times in the Bible […]

Is It Possible?

By |November 10th, 2013|

When you hear that “all things are possible with God,” how does that make you feel? Do you feel anything? Is it just a platitude you hear about God or does it influence how you live your life?

“Jesus looked at them and said, ‘With man it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.’”—Mark 10:27

Jesus had just told the disciples, in Mark 10:23-25, that it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God. Obviously, a camel can’t go through the eye of a needle… So, is Jesus saying it’s not even possible for someone who is rich […]

Expectations vs. Reality

By |November 8th, 2013|

Does your soul and heart ache for those you love when they are hurting? Are you a source of strength for them?…Is someone there for you? Did your expectations become your reality?

“Did not I weep for him whose day was hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy? But when I hoped for good, evil came, and when I waited for light, darkness came.”—Job 30:25-26

We find Job arguing with his friend Bildad for the third time. Can’t you just hear Job’s desperation and frustration? He compares his previous life–the one before he lost everything–to now. He speaks of times in the past where he wept and grieved with those who were struggling and hurting. Yet now that he […]

I Believe – Help My Unbelief!

By |November 1st, 2013|

I believe; help my unbelief. Is this statement a contradiction? I don’t think so. I can SO totally relate, can’t you? Have there been times you have felt this way?

And Jesus said to him, “’If you can’? All things are possible for one who believes.” Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”—Mark 9:23-24

A father brought his son who was possessed by a spirit to Jesus for healing. He said to Jesus, “if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” Jesus, responded incredulously, “If I can?” He then said that what is needed from us – belief. Jesus said that everything – not certain things, not some things – […]

Hardened Hearts

By |October 31st, 2013|

Did you know our hearts can harden? Even though we’ve seen God work in our lives in the past, why do we sometimes question his doing so today?
And Jesus, aware of this [their conversation], said to them [his disciples], “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember?”—Mark 8:17-18
Jesus and the disciples are on a boat. The disciples are concerned because they only brought one loaf of bread. They’re worried about what they will eat. This after seeing Jesus feed thousands of people with just five loaves of […]

What Am I to Do?

By |October 24th, 2013|

Do you know what you are or what it is that you are meant to do? Do you have a set purpose in life? Do you know what that special gift is that you have that you were just meant to share with others?

“and because he was of the same trade he stayed with them and worked, for they were tentmakers by trade.”—Acts 18:3
In reading the verses before Acts 18:3, we discover that Paul left Athens and went to Corinth. He met a Jew (Aquila) and his wife (Priscilla). They were tentmakers – so was Paul. This scripture just states straight to the point that because he was a tentmaker as they were, he stayed and worked with them. […]

Where is God?

By |October 23rd, 2013|

Are you wondering where God is? Do you feel totally alone or that God is nowhere around you? Well, according to Acts 17:27, that’s just not the case.
“that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us”—Acts 17:27
If we read earlier in Acts 17, we discover that while waiting for Silas and Timothy to join him, Paul was greatly troubled to see that Athens was full of idols. He began to reason with the Athenians in their marketplace and synagogue by preaching the good news about Jesus and the resurrection. Because some people thought Paul was discussing strange ideas, they asked him to […]
