Have you ever prayed to God for healing, yet healing didn’t come? Do you wonder why? Do you wonder if God hears you or cares? He does. God loving us – and our being God’s child – does NOT mean we will be shielded from difficulties or heartaches in life.

“Then Jesus told them plainly, ‘Lazarus has died, and for your sake I am glad that I was not there, so that you may believe. But let us go to him.’”—John 11:14-15

From John 11:1-6, we learn that Jesus receives word from his friends, Mary and Martha, that their brother Lazarus is ill. Yet rather than going immediately to his friends or even healing him from afar (which is what we would […]

Flip the Switch?

By |December 12th, 2013|

The mind is a powerful thing. Thoughts. What do you find yourself dwelling on or meditating on the most? Are they uplifting and positive thoughts? Or do you have trouble with negative thinking?

“and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds.”—Eph 4:23

As Christians, we are to put off or put away our former deceitful way of life (Eph 4:22) and put on our new self – living a righteous life created after the likeness of God (Eph 4:24). We are made new not just at one specific point in our life, but continually. It starts in our heart and mind. We are renewed continually in the spirit or attitude of our minds. We are what we think. Proverbs […]

Mirror Image

Seeking God. Do you know him? How well do you know him? Do you have a clear view of him, or is it clouded by your past experiences or limited by your finite thoughts?

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.”—1 Cor 13:12

Circumstances and situations around us can be, and usually are, ever-changing and demanding our attention. Yet, first and foremost, I want my mind concentrating on: seeking God. He will provide answers or direction for everything else. With that in mind while reading today’s scripture passages, 1 Cor 13:12 jumped out at me.
Numerous times in the Bible […]

Expectations vs. Reality

By |November 8th, 2013|

Does your soul and heart ache for those you love when they are hurting? Are you a source of strength for them?…Is someone there for you? Did your expectations become your reality?

“Did not I weep for him whose day was hard? Was not my soul grieved for the needy? But when I hoped for good, evil came, and when I waited for light, darkness came.”—Job 30:25-26

We find Job arguing with his friend Bildad for the third time. Can’t you just hear Job’s desperation and frustration? He compares his previous life–the one before he lost everything–to now. He speaks of times in the past where he wept and grieved with those who were struggling and hurting. Yet now that he […]

Who Is Your Keeper?

By |November 2nd, 2013|

As caregivers, you are caring for, loving, watching out for, helping, protecting and aiding another. You are either the primary or at least one of the keepers for that person. So, who is your keeper?

“’The Lord is your keeper; the Lord is your shade on your right hand.”—Psalm 121:5

The psalmist discusses who our protector is – our lord. He is our keeper. He is our shade or shelter on our right hand.
No one knows better than a caregiver what this verse means for us. You know what you do to care for another. You know how much you care for and love that person – so think how much more God cares for and loves you! You want to […]

Hardened Hearts

By |October 31st, 2013|

Did you know our hearts can harden? Even though we’ve seen God work in our lives in the past, why do we sometimes question his doing so today?
And Jesus, aware of this [their conversation], said to them [his disciples], “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember?”—Mark 8:17-18
Jesus and the disciples are on a boat. The disciples are concerned because they only brought one loaf of bread. They’re worried about what they will eat. This after seeing Jesus feed thousands of people with just five loaves of […]
